What does LUNADA even mean?
Las Lunáticas borrow from the tradition of LUNADAS– nightly bohemias sharing poetry, song, and story under the moon– by staging several readings a year featuring great Latina voices from across the nation– and providing those playwrights with the opportunity, resources, and space to develop their script.
Tell me more about the reading series!
The LUNADAS one- to two-week rehearsal process involves workshopping a playwright’s script with a director, professional actors, and dramaturg. We love having the playwright present for some of that rehearsal, but we encourage playwrights from all over to submit!
The work produced in this workshop will then be shared in a reading style format, with a wine and dessert reception to follow the talk-back. The series is free and open to the public.
Our Reading Series, was launched in 2009 and has workshopped new plays from some of the most talented Latina (and some Latino) playwrights across the country including (but not limited to): Migdalia Cruz, Diane Rodriguez, Elaine Romero Caridad Svich, and Teatro Luna’s own Kristiana Colon (Artistic Associate), Diane Herrera (recent Ensemble Member), and Petrucia Finkler (Artistic Associate).
How do I submit my script?
Listed below are the requirements for submitting a script to our LUNADAS New Works & Reading Series Program. The full submission guidelines can be downloaded here: Lunadas_SubmissionGuidelines_20112012.
All established and experienced playwrights writing from the Hispano and/or Latina/Latino experience in the United States and Canada are encouraged to submit their new work for consideration to our Reading Series. We will invite any full-length works by Latina/Hispana writers and any works about the Latina experience written by those who are not Latina/Hispanas.
